About Montana Rustic Lumber

I’m Hilton Hern, a 5th generation Montanan, born and raised in the beautiful Flathead Valley. With lawmen, cattle ranchers, and farmers for ancestors, I have always been fascinated with history. Over the years it evolved into a passion to reclaim and save the precious and limited resource of old wood.

For over 20 years I have had the extreme pleasure of deconstructing beautiful old barns, homesteads, mining camps, & ghost towns harvesting the wood as well as many primitive collectibles. Alas, my days on the roof and wood wrangling are behind me but, thanks to a new generation, the wood lot stays full. Now my focus is on getting this one-of-a-kind wood into the hands and homes of my customers.

History is still important here at Montana Rustic Lumber. It, along with the lowest prices in the business, is what separates us from everyone else. I have learned that you want to know where the beam for your new mantle came from, and how old it is. I can provide that provenance many times with pictures of the original building it was harvested from, and at a price point that is below all others. I truly care about the history of the products I sell and have found that you do too!
